In short
NatureFitFlorence wild herb walks are slow outings devoted to learning to identify the edible and medicinal plants growing along the path. You cover a few hundred metres over several hours. Led by Alessandra Caselli, a licensed environmental hiking guide under Tuscan regional law 86/2016.

Looking instead of covering ground
On these walks the distance is irrelevant: a few hundred metres over several hours. You stop at every change of terrain, look at what grows and why exactly there. It is surprising how much you pass every day without seeing.
What you learn
- Recognising the commonest edible species and their dangerous look-alikes
- Understanding which season and which habitat to look in
- Gathering without damage: how much, how, and where not to gather
- The rules on foraging in Tuscany
No plant is tasted during the outing. Identification is a skill built over time, and a mistake with wild plants can be serious: these walks teach you to look, they are not permission to eat.
An outing for children
It works well with younger children precisely because it is not tiring and because searching is a game. Often they are the first to find what the adults are treading on.
